What is THERACLEAR™?
The THERACLEAR™ acne system is a acne treatment that treats various acne causes in a single treatment.
The device employs Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and vacuum technology to painlessly treat acne.
THERACLEAR™ is an effective acne treatment in Singapore and is suitable for:

The Theraclear Acne System combines intense pulse light with a vacuum (suction). This treatment works effectively to treat mild to moderate inflammatory acne (including acne vulgaris), comedonal acne and pustular acne.
Acne lesions are commonly caused by clogged pores. Pores are usually blocked by hair, dead skin cells, sebum and bacteria, and can result in acne. Theraclear™ Acne Treatment is a 2-part acne treatment process that treats and removes sebum from pilosebaceous acne.
The suctioning effect of the Theraclear Acne System aids in clearing the pores of sebum and other foreign material that may be clogging it. The suction effect also draws the skin closer to the source of light therapy, enhancing the therapeutic effect and helps to remove the impurities that promote bacterial growth.
The Theraclear™ Procedure
STEP 1: Position
The handpiece is placed on the treatment area.
STEP 2: Cleanse
Gentle pressure removes acne causing bacteria and sebum/dirt.
STEP 3: Treat
Concentrated therapeutic light destroys bacteria and helps calm inflammation.
STEP 4: Complete
Treatment is concluded with the pores being cleansed.
Most alternative acne treatment devices are designed to destroy the p. acne bacteria while leaving the sebum in the infundibulum.
Since total destruction of the p. acnes population is nearly impossible, the bacteria will continue to repopulate the infundibulum as long as its food source and oxygen supply remain.
In contrast Theraclear removes sebum and oxygen, the two essentials that p. acnes bacteria need to survive. This creates a clean environment preventing the return of the bacteria.
As Theraclear™ ACNE SYSTEM is a non-ablative device, it is very gentle on the skin, and therefore requires no numbing cream.
It is common to feel a slight warming and a light prickling sensation on the skin during the procedure. The Zimmer Cryo6 device, through its cooling effect, helps to reduce any discomfort from the heat produced by Theraclear™.
Your eyes will first be protected with a pair of metal goggles.
Our doctor will then begin the treatment by placing the Theraclear™ handpiece gently on your skin. You will feel some suction effect as the device gently lifts your skin to open up pores for treatment.
Next the Theraclear™ device will begin to emit moderate heat. You may sense a faint burning smell as facial hair and dead skins are absorbed by the device and the heat is emitted by the broadband light.
As this is a NON-ABLATIVE device, your skin does not get burnt at all. The Zimmer Cryo6 device provides cool air to reduce any discomfort from the heat produced by Theraclear™.
During each session, the device is passed over the whole face with more focus on the area of concern. After the treatment, you will be brought back to your private room for post-care treatment to cool and calm down the skin before you leave the clinic.
Theraclear treatment has NO downtime because it is non-ablative. The suction may very rarely cause mild redness or small bruises in sensitive skin areas and will resolve within a few hours.
After the treatment, you are not required to stay indoors or avoid makeup. You can return to work, apply makeup, and resume most activities right away.
However, exercise should be avoided for 1-2 days before and after the treatment.
You should also avoid extensive sun exposure for 2-3 weeks before and after the treatment.
There is no special aftercare needed in terms of topical applications for Theraclear™. The most important thing before and after the Theraclear™ procedure is to avoid UV radiation from sun exposure (especially immediately after the procedure). It is advised to avoid excessive, prolonged sun exposure weeks or months after the procedure, even with sunblock applied.
Depending on your skin condition and sun exposure, you may develop darker pigmentations in the treatment areas. You are advised to apply sunblock every 1-2 hours when outdoors and avoid outdoor exposure, especially during the peak sunlight hours of the day.
Treating acne is a gradual process that requires multiple sessions and collaboration of efforts to produce effective and long-lasting results. The number of Theraclear™ sessions required will depend on various factors including the severity of your acne and lifestyle. During the consultation session, our doctor will advise you more on the best acne treatment course for your skin.
Typically, it takes between 6-10 treatments for visible improvement of your skin, assuming that you adhere to the lifestyle guidelines provided for the prevention of acne.
Treatment is done at recommended intervals of 1 – 2 weeks. Once your acne treatment goals are met, Theraclear™ can be done at monthly intervals for maintenance and prevention.
Due to the modern device features and adherence to strict safety settings and guidelines, Theraclear™ acne treatment in Singapore is a very safe procedure. However, it is important to note that as with any procedure, there is always a risk of skin irritation which can lead to itchiness, redness, or mild swelling after the treatment.
